Fierce battles are raging in the Hauts Plateaux of Uvira territory, where patriotic Congolese self-defense forces known as the Wazalendo are confronting the coalition of M23 rebels, the AFC movement, and Rwandan Defense Forces (RDF).

According to local sources, clashes intensified in Kalungu, where the rebel contingent led by Colonel Ndagabaza has been cornered after suffering heavy losses in recent confrontations across the region.

The coalition forces had previously engaged in battles at Muhuzi, Runywera, Mirandira, Mutanga, and Chuya. Following these defeats, they regrouped at Kalungu but found themselves unable to advance towards Minembwe or retreat to their original positions.

On Wednesday morning, the Wazalendo launched a direct assault on the rebels in Kalungu. Reports indicate that the coalition suffered significant casualties, abandoning both wounded fighters and their equipment during the retreat.

“Wherever they passed, they were struck hard. This time, they have no way out. They will all be neutralized—there will be no survivors,” one battlefield source told Kivu Will Never Be Rwanda.

The strategic road towards Minembwe has now been completely sealed off. Wazalendo and Congolese Armed Forces (FARDC/FAB) units have established a stronghold at Miza, on the Ruzizi bridge in the Hauts Plateaux, effectively cutting off escape routes for the M23-AFC-RDF coalition.

This development marks a significant turning point in the ongoing resistance against Rwanda-backed rebel aggression in eastern DR Congo.
