Manufactured Crisis
What’s unfolding in Goma, Bukavu and other parts of the Kivu Region of the Democratic Republic of Congo is not a tribal war, nor a spontaneous civil conflict. It is a deliberately engineered crisis — designed and driven by Rwanda through its armed proxy, the M23 rebel group. This is not about Babembe versus Batutsi. It is about power, plunder, and a long-standing strategy to destabilise and fragment Eastern Congo.
Behind the violence lies a calculated agenda: economic exploitation, regional interference, and an aggressive campaign to balkanise the Kivu region. The Rwandan government, through M23, is advancing a false narrative to mask its true intentions — turning the region into a battlefield not for survival, but for control, influence, and the illicit extraction of resources.
This is not a local conflict. It is a foreign-sponsored assault on Congolese sovereignty — and it must be named as such.
Where Did M23 Really Come From?
M23 is not a group that grew out of local Congolese struggles. It didn’t rise from the people. It was created and controlled by the Rwandan government — trained, armed, and funded to serve its interests.
The group first appeared in 2012, but was quickly defeated by the Congolese army with help from UN peacekeepers. Many thought it was gone for good. But in 2021, M23 suddenly returned — just as Rwanda was stepping up its military and economic activities in eastern Congo.
This wasn’t a coincidence. M23’s return was part of a larger plan by Rwanda to:
Control Congo’s natural resources — especially in areas rich in gold, coltan, and other valuable minerals.
Weaken Congo’s government — by creating chaos and challenging its authority in the east.
Protect Rwanda’s own business and security interests — by keeping the region unstable.
In short, M23 is not just a rebel group — it’s a tool in a wider strategy to interfere in Congo’s future for profit and power.

Why Goma? Why Now?
Goma isn’t just any city — it sits at the heart of one of the world’s richest regions in natural resources. Under the ground lies coltan, gold, cobalt, and cassiterite — minerals used in smartphones, electric cars, and other modern technologies. Whoever controls Goma, controls access to billions of dollars in global supply chains.
This conflict is not about protecting communities or ethnic groups. The claim that it’s about defending Congolese Tutsis is being used as a cover. The real motive is power and profit — it’s about who gets to take and sell Congo’s wealth.
Instead of declaring open war, Rwanda is using a different strategy:
They use M23 as a puppet rebel group, making it seem like a local uprising when it’s actually foreign-controlled.
They spread false information, trying to paint Congo as weak and unable to manage its own land.
They use international lobbying, influencing powerful countries and institutions to avoid pressure, sanctions, or being held accountable.
What’s happening in Goma is not accidental. It’s part of a planned takeover of Congo’s resources — dressed up as a local conflict.
How This Crisis Was Manufactured
What’s happening in Eastern Congo isn’t just war — it’s a carefully planned strategy built on manipulation, deception, and control. Rwanda’s approach to this conflict doesn’t rely on tanks and airstrikes alone — it uses modern tactics designed to confuse the world and break down Congo from the inside.
Here’s how the strategy works:
Disguised Troops: Rwandan soldiers cross the border dressed as M23 rebels, blurring the lines between local fighters and foreign forces. This allows Rwanda to deny direct involvement while continuing its military operations.
Fake Ceasefires & Secret Deals: Ceasefires are declared but rarely respected. They’re often used to buy time, regroup, and gain international credibility — all while preparing for the next attack behind the scenes.
Stirring Ethnic Divisions: Rwanda fuels ethnic tensions within Congo to divide communities. This weakens local resistance and shifts attention away from foreign interference.
Weaponising Human Suffering: Over 2 million people have been forced to flee their homes. Rwanda uses this humanitarian crisis to pressure the international community — framing the situation as complex and encouraging “dialogue” instead of demanding justice and accountability.
This isn’t a chaotic war. It’s a crisis manufactured with precision — designed to destabilise Congo while shielding those responsible from blame.
Our Stand: Congo’s Land Is Not for Sale
We believe every inch of Congolese territory belongs to its people — not to foreign armies or rebel groups hiding behind fake causes.
Here is where we stand:
We reject any foreign-backed militias occupying Congo, especially those supported by Rwanda. Congo’s borders are not up for negotiation.
We demand justice. Rwanda must be held accountable for its role in creating chaos and displacing millions.
We urge the African Union, United Nations, and global leaders to speak the truth: Rwanda is the aggressor, and silence is complicity.
We stand with the people of Goma, and with the Congolese Armed Forces who are defending their land and sovereignty.
This is not just about territory. It’s about dignity, justice, and the right of a nation to live in peace.
Frequently Asked Questions
This crisis is not a spontaneous civil war or tribal conflict. It is a planned and coordinated campaign, largely backed by Rwanda, using armed militias like M23 to destabilise the Kivu region. The goal is to control land, resources, and political influence — not to protect any community or fight for justice.
Goma is strategically located and rich in valuable minerals like coltan, gold, and cobalt — essential for global tech industries. Controlling Goma means controlling access to billions of dollars in natural resources, which is why it’s central to Rwanda’s proxy strategy.
Rwanda disguises its soldiers as M23 fighters, fuels misinformation, stages fake ceasefires, and uses humanitarian crises to manipulate international opinion. These tactics are designed to avoid blame while continuing their interference in Congolese territory.
M23 is not a grassroots movement. It was created, trained, and funded by the Rwandan government. Although it first appeared in 2012 and was defeated, it resurfaced in 2021 — aligned once again with Rwanda’s growing economic and military interests in Eastern Congo.
No. While ethnic narratives are often used as a smokescreen, the real motive is power and profit. Rwanda and M23 claim to defend certain communities, but their actions have led to widespread violence, displacement, and resource theft — harming the very people they claim to protect.
The first step is to acknowledge Rwanda as the aggressor. We call on the UN, African Union, and world powers to stop hiding behind diplomacy and take action: impose sanctions, cut military aid, and support Congo’s right to sovereignty and peace.
